World Record Black Grouper shot at Key West
Myself and few friends decided to go to Key West for some blackfin tuna action but when we got down there we found out that the blackfin tuna were few and far between but the wahoo where thick. I ended up shooting four wahoo that weighed 22.7 kg's, 21.8 kg's, 20.4 kg's and 19 kg's. I also shot a amberjack that weighed 34 kg's along with three kingfish that weighed 11.3 kg's, 9 kg's and 5.9 kg's all with my 130cm carbon apex. After we hunted the bluewater for more then three quarters of the day we decided to hunt the reef line for a little. We were working a drop that went from 70 ft to 90ft. On my second drop I was getting close to the bottom when I noticed this very large black grouper starting to swim away from the reef. I started slowing down my accent and the grouper slowed just enough for me to get the perfect shot. I lined up my 130cm carbon apex and hit the grouper right behind the head stoning it. I grabbed my prize and started towards the surface. I looked at my suunto on the way to the boat to see how deep I had shot the grouper at and I was at 78ft when I pulled the trigger. When we got back to the dock and put the grouper on a certified scale and it weighed 53.5 lbs or 24.3 kg's which turned to to be a new world record beating the old record by 3.7 lbs or 1.68 kg's. What a day!!!!
